– 1 package of cocktail wieners or mini hot dogs
– 1 cup of yellow cornmeal
– 1 cup of all-purpose flour
– 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon of baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon of salt
– 1 egg
– 1 cup of milk
– Vegetable oil, for frying
– Toothpicks or small skewers

1. Prepare the hot dogs: If you’re using cocktail wieners or mini hot dogs, pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This will help the batter stick better.

2. Insert toothpicks: Insert toothpicks or small skewers into each mini hot dog. Leave enough of the toothpick exposed to make them easy to handle and eat.

3. Make the batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the yellow cornmeal, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well combined. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until you have a smooth batter.

4. Heat the oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use enough oil to fully submerge the mini corn dogs.

5. Coat the hot dogs: Dip each mini hot dog into the batter, ensuring that it is evenly coated on all sides. Allow any excess batter to drip off before carefully placing the coated hot dog into the hot oil. You can work in batches to avoid overcrowding the skillet.

6. Fry until golden brown: Fry the mini corn dogs in the hot oil for about 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to carefully turn them halfway through the cooking process to ensure even browning.

7. Drain and serve: Once the mini corn dogs are cooked to perfection, remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

8. Enjoy! Serve your homemade mini corn dogs with your favorite dipping sauces such as ketchup, mustard, or honey mustard. They’re best enjoyed hot and crispy!

Homemade mini corn dogs are a delightful snack that’s fun to make and even more fun to eat.
